‘I played Fallon Sherrock at darts and it ended in embarrassment’.

Sam Frost takes on the first woman to secure a win in the PDC Darts World Championship – and it does not go well.

As my first practice dart pierced into the treble 20, optimism swelled I would not get embarrassed by darts pioneer Fallon Sherrock. How wrong I was.

That was due to my incompetence, rather than her immense talent, though, but more on that in the moment.

In case you did not know, Sherrock became the first woman to secure a win in the PDC World Darts Championship late last year, stunning Ted Evetts in the first round.

That was not the end of her run as the 25-year-old shocked 11th seed Mensur Suljović before giving Chris Dobey a run for his money in the third round, capturing the news agenda across the globe in the process.

Here was a woman beating men on a level playing field, inspiring millions of women and girls across all sports.

Her success has unlocked many doors, some more glamorous than others. Sherrock is now the recipient of invites to play on the biggest stages across the globe.

Sponsors’ interest has increased too, which is how this laughable mismatch of darts superstar against journalist/bang-average arrow-thrower came about.
